Another Telephone Phish

Telephone

A person called me on the phone a few moments ago claiming to be from US Bank. He said there was some fraud detected on my account: someone created a new checking account with my identity information.

“So, you have my identity information?” I asked.

“Yes,” he replied.

“Can you prove who you say you are?” I got the first 3 words out before he abruptly hung up.

I’m not surprised this was a bogus call. I could hear a busy call center in the background. People tracking down fraud are probably not in call centers; those centers are designed to make a lot of calls by sharing them among a large team. Call centers usually operate from a script, and you can’t chase fraud using a script.

But you can definitely implement fraud doing a script!
